Hi everyone. Welcome to my Paint Party Friday # 46. I've been slacking on posting because it's been a busy time as of late. Right now I'm trying to get the house clean, plus my studio and there are other things to do as well.
Hopefully you are not getting tired of my Van Gogh's, as this is the fourth piece with eight more to go. My Mission Van Gogh will be completed once they have all been posted. When this mission has been completed, it will be time to tackle "Mission Pablo Picasso." This year I guess Impressionism is the route that's been taken. Of course Frida will always be first, and she will pop in from time to time as well.
Thanks Eva and Kristin for hosting your fun and learning blog. I'm a better person because of it. So here we go with Number 4.
Acrylics
What a difference in comparison. Who can paint this person and even come close. Go ahead, you can hit me with the paint brush, splatter paint all over me, but for some reason though, as I was painting his self-portrait, I became lost in his eyes. A sadness for this man filled my heart.
Now the Master's work:
Painting, Oil on Canvas
Van Gogh organized an exhibition that was held in November or December 1887. The formulation ‘I’ll gladly do all I can to make a success of what was started in the dining-room’ (l. 94-95) seems to imply that the exhibition had now closed, which is why we have dated the letter to around December 1887.
Vincent Van Gogh's self-portrait
1-4
It seemed to get harder and harder as I painted his self-portraits.
What a man! What a master!
It's been a lot of fun trying to paint his paintings. I don't regret any of them, just wish they could have been better. That's what we artist's always wish for though, isn't it? When I am done there will be 12 of his portraits that I've painted. I think it will have been one of the hardest things I've done.
HAPPY PAINT FRIDAY!
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!
GOD BLESS.

Wow - you go Gloria!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be a little late to PPF this week, but I do have something to contribute . . . a page in my Gratitude journal.

I am always delighted to see your efforts and wonderful paintings. Your words are always an inspiration. Your Van Goghs are really awesome and I must committing to something of this kind and keeping it up is really Great!
ReplyDeleteHPP Friday:)
yes, I find his life very sad as well and I LOVE his paintings. I have Cafe de Nuit in a large 43" X 41 painting. I have several other Van Gogh's throughout the house. I just love his works.
ReplyDeletewow you have taken on a mammoth task Gloria and they are all brilliant pieces. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteI tried to paint a van Gogh once, for a painting class - or at least in a van Gogh style. Technically it was an OK piece but I completely botched his character, somehow, his essence, his 'duende'. I think you are capturing that in your work far better than I ever did thanks for sharing your cool project!
ReplyDeleteNo! Not tired of Vang Gogh yet! Keep them coming! ♥
ReplyDeleteI love Van Gogh, too.
ReplyDeleteThe eyes are very soulful in your painting.
Happy PPF! :)
This has been such a great project and I really think you have captured the essence of him... your commitment to it has been inspiring so I am glad you got so much out of it... happy ppf
ReplyDeleteLovely work Gloria! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome Gloria. What a cool idea to emulate master's works. I think it would be a fantastic way to work on one's technique and learn more.
ReplyDeleteI can see what you mean about his eyes, they are very easy to get lost in!
He always makes me feel sad when I see his portraits too. I watched a great episode of Dr Who where he met Van Gogh and took him into the future to see how his paintings are viewed now. It was very moving.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing the great man justice.
Great compliment to the great man ! Grreat painting! Happy ppf!

Wonderful, Gloria. Yes, Vincent was a very passionate but tortured man. He suffered throughout his life, but his artwork was ground-breaking and amazing. I'm sure he's very pleased at what your doing right now...you have a "Vincent" angel on your shoulder.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Abrazos,
Georgina

ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not sick of seeing your renditions of Van Gogh - they're wonderful! I can really see the awe you feel for this man, troubled soul that he was. I'm looking forward to seeing many more!
That's a mammoth task Gloria! But am sure the rest 8 too would be as lovely as these 4. And thanks for the encouraging words you've been putting in my blog.
ReplyDeleteWonderful work emulating Van Gogh, and what a great project to appreciate the masters more! Unless you have a bottle of Absinthe, I don't think any of us can get all that he put into his works! Great job, and Happy PPF :)
